Nageshwara Temple

The Nageshwara Temple is a temple located in Begur, the rural district of Bangalore in the karnataka state. The Nageshwara temple is locally called Naganateshwara temple by the people of Begur. It is one of the oldest temples in Bengaluru with an ancient architecture and design which almost dates back to 1000 years. It is build on a typical Dravidian style. Nageshwara and Nageshwaraswami are the two shrines within the temple complex of Begur. These two Shrines were made during the rule of western ganga dynasty kings, Nitimarga I and Ereyappa Nitimarga II. The Nageshwara temple completely has four Shrines along with the main Nageshwara Temple. These Shrines are called Sri Choleshwara Swamy, Sri Karneshwara Swamy, Sri Nagareshwara Swamy temple and Sri Kalimateshwara Swamy temple. Together these Shrines are called Panchalingeshwara temple respectively. There are many other Shrines as well. The remaining shrines of the temple are considered as a legacy of the rule of Chola dynasty in the territory. Nageshwara Temple has an inscription of the Bengaluru city during 890 AD. It also mentions a 'Bengaluru War' in one of the stone that has been carved. Lord Shiva is worshipped in the Nageshwara Temple. 
The overall structure of Nageshwara Temple is very distinct and beautiful. It is surely a visual treat. As we enter the Nageshwara Temple, we can find a hall which is connected to the Maha Mantapa (the great hall) and then to the inner sanctum. Mount Nandi is placed in the open hall as we enter the temple. Mount Nandi is placed facing Lord Shiva. There are beautiful carvings and sculptures in temple. There are sculptures of Goddess Devi, Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Durga and Lord Ganesha. The carvings on the stones depict various Warriors of the territory. 
People visit Nageshwara temple as part of their weekly ritual, during any special occasion or festivals and to perform puja's. The begur Lake increases the beauty and charm of the place.
